West Hartford is a town in Hartford County, about 5 miles  west of Hartford.  The town’s popular downtown area is colloquially known as “West Hartford Center,” or simply “The Center,” and is centered on Farmington Avenue and South/North Main Street. West Hartford Center has been the community’s main hub since the late 17th century. In 2008, Blue Back Square opened as a new addition to the central area, which includes a bookstore, a movie theater, two parking garages, various physician and medical offices, a gym, a brewery and several boutiques and restaurants. This area is also highly popular among younger people on weekends.

West Hartford, CT Resources:

West Hartford Art League – Started by two women in 1934, the West Hartford Art League has grown into a regional arts organization. We offer year-round classes, monthly exhibitions, and events that make art accessible as we take art out of our galleries and bring it into the community. We owe our start and the vision to have an organization where artists could meet, learn and become inspired to Mrs. Rebecca Field Jones, a sculptress and painter, and Mrs. Gertrude Patterson, a portrait painter and art teacher.

West Hartford Chamber of Commerce – The West Hartford Chamber of Commerce is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to the development, advancement, and promotion of the professional, business, educational, civic, and cultural well being of our town. Membership dues and annual fundraisers support the Chamber. Especially important to us is the satisfaction of our members. The Chamber continually looks to improve its benefits package to give businesses the most value for their investment dollars.

West Hartford Libraries – West Hartford has long been a “reading” community. In the 18th century, a subscription library was organized by members of the Congregational Church and in 1837, Noah Webster donated 78 books. From this gift evolved the West Hartford Library Association. Throughout all the years of change, however, one thing has remained constant. West Hartford, a community of “readers,” has continued to use and support the West Hartford Public Library as it has reinvented itself to meet the expanding needs of all local residents.
