Bloomfield Bedroom

Bloomfield was originally part of Windsor.  The town of Bloomfield is rooted in a 1640 settlement known as Messenger Farms, located at the eastern end of what is now Park Avenue. By the time it was formally incorporated in 1835, the settlement had grown to over 900 residents. Bloomfield is now a vibrant community with its roots in the past with a keen eye to the future.

Initially, the town’s local economy was agriculturally based, mostly in shade tobacco, remaining as such until it developed as a postwar suburb of Hartford starting in the 1950s. Today, Bloomfield’s local character varies. While the town’s southern and eastern fringes are more densely populated and developed, the northern and western sections maintain a more rural feel with meadows, woods, and some remaining farmland.

Bloomfield, CT Resources:

Prosser Library – Bloomfield’s Prosser Public Library and P. Faith McMahon Wintonbury Library are committed to enriching our community by providing opportunities to acquire information and education while fostering inspiration and imagination. When people think about libraries, they inevitably think about books and reading. The Prosser Public Library continues to pride itself on that association, but as the world changes ever more rapidly, the library must expand its mission and services in order to remain a vital resource for all members of the community.

Penwood State Park – A long wooded ridge dominates the sunset-side of the Connecticut River Valley in the vicinity of Hartford. Crested atop the northerly portion of the Talcott Mountain Range lies a sizable portion of the public domain, Penwood State Park. With this gift in 1944 to the citizens of Connecticut of nearly 800 acres, Curtis H. Veeder wished only that his beloved hilltop, “be kept in a natural state so that those who love nature may enjoy this property as I have enjoyed it.”

Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce  – The Bloomfield Chamber was founded in 1965 and is a private, not-for-profit, member-driven organization. The Chamber’s mission is to promote our member’s success as well as a strong business environment. We do this through sponsorship of events and programs that provide members with opportunities to expand their customer bases and improve their competitiveness, and through engagement with Town of Bloomfield government officials on economic development and business climate issues.
